Check out some the reviews for audiobooks I've had the pleasure to narrate below.Derek Shoales is becoming one of the great indie book narrators out there, with skills that are on par with some of the best names in the business. His tone of voice, inflection, and characterization skills really bring this story to life.
Derek Shoales delivers another outstanding professional performance. He seamlessly moves from one accent to another and offers up the emotion in key scenes that will keep listeners glued to their headphones. “The Enigma Ignite” is pure entertainment.
The narrator is smooth with his narration skills and sweet to the ear. Listening to Derek Shoales as he tells the story is therapeutic, as the narrator plays with words and changes his tone throughout the book. The narrator spoke well, inserting laughs, pausing at the right places, and raising his voice where the characters seemed to speak in a high pitched voice. He was also brilliant as he took used different vocal variations and accents when speaking on different characters. His reading tempo is perfect too; not too fast for one to miss on some words and not too slow to cause boredom. Derek Shoales is an excellent narrator.
Derek Shoales is the perfect narrator for this series. He has easily become the world of Enigma! He projects the fear, love and everything in between with the smooth flow of his voice. He never stumbles, it’s like he is living it when he narrates.
Derek Shoales, the narrator for the Enigma series is excellent. He has distinct voices for each character and moves the story further through his energy. He has become the Enigma series to me. He’s perfect. His voice is soothing yet exudes appropriate emotions.
The version for this review was an audio book which was narrated by Derek Shoales. It’s almost always a bit nerve racking to listen to an audio book of a series you enjoy. For the Enigma Series it’s even more so. The cast of characters is extremely culturally diverse and trying to capture an accent in a way that is natural can be extremely difficult. Couple that with the fact that you have a very masculine voice attempting to read lines that are historically very feminine and you have a potential recipe for disaster. Luckily for us, Shoales is clearly a professional in his field. He does an excellent job capturing the nuances of this characters and working hard to portray the differences eloquently.
Having listened to a few books narrated by Derek Shoales I realize his performances are very skillful. He brings it every book.
The accents, personalities were spot on throughout the book. Irish, varous American accents, Scottish were impressive.
I gave Shoales a higher mark here after listening to him for a while. He gets into the head of each character and brings out there personalities with skill. Very consistent throughout the book and good narrative voice.
